How much does a chiropractor cost in Delaware?
A new-patient exam at Pure Wellness starts at $78. A consultation is $39. If you use insurance, what you owe can be lower than the advertised cash fees. Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, personal injury, and workers’ compensation patients are welcome for care but are excluded from advertised offers.
Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?
Usually no. Delaware patients can book a chiropractor directly. Some HMO plans still want a primary-care referral or authorization before they pay. We check that when we verify benefits so you are not surprised at the desk.
What happens on a first chiropractic visit?
Plan 60 to 90 minutes. We take a history, check posture and range of motion, examine, and — when you are a chiropractic case and you consent — adjust the same day. You get a detailed verbal report of findings at a follow-up visit, not a rushed diagnosis in the lobby.
Will I get adjusted on the first visit?
Usually, once the doctor confirms you are a chiropractic case and you agree. The first visit is the longest because of the exam. We do not adjust just because you booked an appointment.
How often do I need to see a chiropractor?
That depends on the exam, not a package you buy at the front desk. Acute pain is often seen more often at the start; wellness visits are farther apart. The plan is explained at the report of findings so you know why a frequency was recommended.
How long until chiropractic care helps?
Many people feel movement change in the first few visits. Lasting change takes a short course of care plus the homework — ice, motion, and not sitting in the same collapsed posture that started it. If nothing is changing, we re-examine instead of repeating a plan that is not working.
Can I walk in or get a same-day chiropractic appointment in Delaware?
Call the clinic you want. Same-day new-patient slots happen when the schedule allows; they are not guaranteed. First visits need 60–90 minutes, so the desk will be honest if today is already full.
Insurance and payment
Coverage is the other thing people Google. We verify benefits before treatment so you are not guessing.
Does insurance cover chiropractic care?
Most plans we see include chiropractic visits, with copays, visit limits, and HMO versus PPO rules that vary by contract. We participate in many Aetna, AmeriHealth, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna HMO, Keystone, Medicare, Medicaid, and United Healthcare HMO plans. We verify and explain benefits at no charge.
Does Medicare cover chiropractic?
Medicare covers medically necessary spinal manipulation for a covered diagnosis. It does not pay the same way for exams, therapies, or maintenance visits. Medicaid is accepted; coverage still depends on the plan. We walk through what is actually payable before you start. Government-program patients are welcome for care and excluded from advertised new-patient offers.
Do chiropractors take auto insurance or workers’ compensation?
Yes. Personal injury and workers’ compensation cases are treated at every Pure Wellness office. Tell the desk when you book so the file is set up correctly. Those cases are excluded from advertised cash offers.
What if I have little or no chiropractic coverage?
Ask about cash exam pricing and ChiroHealthUSA, a discount membership — not insurance — that helps when benefits are thin. Sign up from the insurance or new-patients page for the clinic you will visit.

What is chiropractic care?
Chiropractic is health care focused on the spine, nervous system, and the joints and muscles around them. At Pure Wellness it starts with an exam, not a guess and not a one-size adjustment.
What is a chiropractic adjustment?
A specific, controlled impulse applied to a joint that is not moving properly. The aim is better spinal function, less nerve irritation, and easier movement — not cracking bones for the sound.
Do chiropractic adjustments hurt?
Most patients feel relief. Any soreness is usually like starting a new exercise program. Water, ice, and light movement help. Force, technique, and positioning change with size, age, pregnancy, injury, and preference, including instrument adjusting.
Are chiropractic adjustments safe?
Spinal adjustments are widely considered a safe, drug-free option when performed by a licensed chiropractor after a proper exam. We screen for red flags, skip or modify techniques that do not fit the findings, and refer out when the case is not chiropractic.
Why do adjustments sometimes pop?
Joints can release small pockets of gas. The sound is not bones cracking, and it is not required for a good adjustment. Plenty of effective adjustments are quiet.
Are all patients adjusted the same way?
No. Diversified, Gonstead, Cox distraction, Activator, Thompson, SOT, Webster, and myofascial work are used across the group. Your doctor matches force and technique to the exam — not to a script.
Will I need X-rays before seeing a chiropractor?
Only when indicated. Trauma, certain neurological findings, or a history that changes the plan can mean imaging. Not every patient is imaged on day one.

Can a chiropractor help lower back pain?
Often, when the pain is coming from joints, discs, nerves, or the muscles that guard them. We exam first so we are not stretching a disc problem or adjusting past a red flag. Many Delaware patients come in after rest and medication have not changed the mechanical reason.
Can a chiropractor help sciatica or a pinched nerve?
Sciatica is a pattern — leg pain, tingling, or weakness from nerve irritation — not a diagnosis by itself. Chiropractic care, decompression when indicated, and muscle work can help when the exam points to a mechanical cause. Progressive weakness or bowel/bladder change is an emergency, not an adjustment.
Can a chiropractor help a herniated disc?
Many disc cases are treated conservatively. We do not yank on an acute disc and we do not promise to “put a disc back.” The exam decides whether adjusting, decompression, or a medical referral is the next step.
Can a chiropractor help neck pain and headaches?
Desk and commute necks, cervicogenic headaches, and many tension-type headaches respond when the joints and muscles of the neck are the driver. Migraines are a different animal — we treat the mechanical load around them and leave the diagnosis to the right clinician when needed.
Is a chiropractor or physical therapy better for back pain?
They are not the same job. Chiropractic here is exam-driven joint and nerve care, often with muscle work in the same visit. PT is typically longer-session rehab. Some patients need both. We do not ask you to pick a team from a Google snippet — the exam tells us what is missing.
Pregnancy, kids, accidents, and sports
Can I see a chiropractor if I am pregnant?
Yes. Care is modified for each trimester. Webster-trained doctors practice in Newark, Wilmington, and Camden/Dover. Tables, force, and positioning change; we do not treat pregnancy like a small adult back.
Do chiropractors treat children?
Yes. Pediatric visits use lighter force and, when indicated, instrument adjusting. A parent or guardian must attend for patients under 18. Bring the pediatric intake from the new-patients page.
Should I see a chiropractor after a car accident?
If you have neck, back, or headache symptoms after a crash, an exam documents what is going on while it is still fresh. Whiplash is easy to minimize in week one and hard to ignore in week three. Tell the desk it is an auto case so billing is set up correctly.
Can a chiropractor help sports injuries?
Sprains, throwing shoulders, lumbar strains, and return-to-play visits are a regular caseload — including UD and rec-league athletes. Care is built around getting you moving again without pretending tape replaces an exam.
Acupuncture, massage, shockwave, and decompression

What is acupuncture used for at a chiropractic clinic?
Pain, stress physiology, nerve irritation, digestion, and women’s health concerns — not a spa extra. A new acupuncture exam and treatment is $135 (30 minutes of exam, 30 minutes of treatment). Needles are hair-thin; most people feel a dull ache, warmth, or very little.
Is massage therapy the same as chiropractic?
No. Massage works muscle and fascia; chiropractic works joints and the nervous system. They stack well in the same plan. A one-hour licensed massage is $110. This is clinical massage, not a gift-certificate hour that ignores why the muscle keeps tightening.
What is shockwave therapy and how much does it cost?
Shockwave uses acoustic energy to stimulate healing in stubborn tendon, muscle, and joint pain. Sessions are short. Cash visits start at $49 for exam and treatment. It is available in Newark, Wilmington, and Smyrna — not Middletown or Camden/Dover.
What is spinal decompression?
A controlled, in-clinic way to reduce load on discs and irritated nerve roots. It is not a home traction gadget and it is not for every back. The exam decides whether you are a candidate.
